In India's ancient culture, the stories related to deities in the timeless Sanskrit scriptures hold significant importance. These stories are essential for us to explore, as they convey valuable lessons. Similarly, if one follows the rules and rituals in Hindu Sanatan culture, there is always a reason behind it. Practices like Sandhya Vandana, Aarti, offering prayers, seeking blessings, etc., are embedded in our culture, and each of our stories imparts a lesson.
Today, we are presenting a story associated with two demons, Madhu and Kaitab ( Kaitabha) , which is rooted in the same cosmic cycle where Lord Narayana repeatedly creates and, at a certain time, brings about destruction (Pralaya) to end that creation. After the cosmic destruction, Lord Vishnu remains in Yogic slumber influenced by the power of Goddess Bhagavati to ensure neither the gods awaken prematurely nor does creation happen before its time. All aspects of creation, according to the Deva Samhita, are governed by the rules of the Trinity.
Story :
Once, during the cosmic dissolution, Vishnu submerged the world in water. At that time, in the charred remains, Madhu and Kaitab were born from the dirt in Vishnu's ears. These demons were terrifying from birth and were the first to appear in the newly created universe. Observing nothing but water around them, they began their rigorous penance to gain power from Goddess Bhagavati.
After many years, pleased with Madhu and Kaitab's devotion, Goddess Bhagavati appeared to grant them a boon. The demons requested the boon of death at their own will. The Goddess fulfilled their wish. However, after receiving this boon, Madhu and Kaitab became arrogant and started searching for enemies to establish their dominance. In the absence of any visible opponents in the watery surroundings, they became frustrated.
During this time, Madhu and Kaitab saw Lord Brahma in Vishnu's navel lotus and challenged him for a battle. Brahma, aware of the boon, tried to avoid the conflict, but the demons persisted. Helpless, Brahma called out to Goddess Bhagavati for assistance, highlighting that if the demons killed him, there would be no one left to create the universe.
Responding to Brahma's plea, Goddess Bhagavati emerged from Vishnu's body. Madhu and Kaitab, filled with pride, asked her to grant them a boon. In their arrogance, they rejected the idea of asking for a gift like beggars. They offered a counterproposal that if anyone had to ask for a boon, it should be Vishnu himself.
Agreeing to their terms, Vishnu, influenced by Goddess Bhagavati, woke up. In the ensuing battle, Vishnu fought Madhu and Kaitab for five thousand years. Despite their strength, Vishnu couldn't defeat them. In desperation, Vishnu sought Goddess Bhagavati's help again. The demons, now even more arrogant, suggested that Vishnu ask for a boon, allowing them to fulfill their own desire.
Seizing this moment, Vishnu requested a boon that he be granted the power to slay them. Overwhelmed by pride, Madhu and Kaitab granted this boon. Vishnu immediately wielded his divine discus (Sudarshana Chakra) and swiftly beheaded both demons, ending their reign of terror.
This story emphasizes the importance of humility and the consequences of unchecked pride. Even powerful beings like Madhu and Kaitab met their downfall due to their arrogance, ultimately teaching us the value of humility and respect for higher forces.

Story
Bharat ki sanatan sanskriti, jo kahaniyan devi-devtaon se judi hain, unki mahatva poorna hai. Ye kahaniyan hamein mahatva purna sabak sikhane mein madad karti hain. Usi tarah, agar koi Hindu sanatan sanskriti mein koi niyam dharm ka palan karta hai to uske piche bhi ek karan hota hai. Jaise ki sandhya vandan, aarti, pranam karna, aashirwad lena, aadi. Hamari sanskriti ki sabhi kahaniyon mein ek seekh dekhne ko milti hai.
Aaj hum aapke samne aise hi ek seekh bhari kahani batane ja rahe hain jo do asur Madhu aur Kaitabh se judi hai.
Ek baar jo niyam ban gaya phir us niyam ko kabhi koi bhang nahi karta aur jo karya kis devi-devta ko diya gaya vo karya vo karte rahte hain. Ek devi athva devi ke karya mein koi bhi dusra dev ata devi hastaakshap nahi karta.
Hamari kahani bhi usi pralayakal ke dauran ki hai. Vishnu ne pralay laakar sansar ko nasht kar diya. Us samay charo aur jal hi jal dikhayi pad rahe the. Pralaykal ke baad hamesha ki tarah Vishnu ke bhitar devi yognidra mein sama gayi aur Vishnu bhagvati yognidra ke prabhav mein aakar so gaye. Aur phir dekhte hi dekhte kai yug beet gaye. Lekin phir ek din acchanak hi usi dauran Vishnu ke kaan ke mail se Madhu aur Kaitabh naamak do daanavon ka janm ho gaya. Ye daanav janm se hi bhayankar the. Dono ne dekha srishti mein kuch bhi nahi hai charo or jal hi jal hai. Us samay dono hi asur srishti mein sabse pehle aaye the. Madhu aur Kaitabh dono ko us waqt aakash mein keval Maa Bhagvati ke mantra sunai diye jo pralay ke baad srishti mein charo or sunai padh rahe the. Dono asur Maa Bhagvati ki shakti ke baare mein pata chal gaya jiski wajah se dono bhai Maa Bhagvati ki kathor tapasya sadhna shuru kar di.
Lekin is varadan ke milne ke baad Madhu aur Kaitabh ghamand mein bhar gaye aur apni shakti dikhane ke liye shatru dhoondhne nikal pade. Kuch dikhayi na dene par unka frustration aur badh gaya.
Is beech, Madhu aur Kaitabh ne Vishnu ko apne samne navel lotus mein dekha aur use yudh ke liye challenge kiya. Vishnu, varadan ke bare mein jankar, yudh se bachne ki koshish karta hai lekin daanavon ka inkaar hota hai. Bebas Brahma ne Maa Bhagvati se sahayata maangi, unhe batate hue ki agar unhein maar diya jayega to srishti ka nirmann kaun karega.
Brahma ke is anurodh par Maa Bhagvati Vishnu ke sharir se prakat hui. Madhu aur Kaitabh, ab aur adhik ghamand mein bhar gaye, unhone devi se varadan maangne ki jagah kaha ki var maangne wale bhikhari nahi hain. Unhone ek vipreet prastav diya ki agar koi var maangna hai to voh Vishnu unhein maange. Vishnu ne unke shart svikar kar li, unse maangte huye ki vah un dono ka vadh kar sakein. Madhu aur Kaitabh, apne ghamand mein choor, ne Vishnu se yahi varadan maang liya. Vishnu ne turant apne divya chakra se un dono daanavon ke sir ko kaat diya, unke atyachar ka anth kar diya.
Ye kahani hamare ahamkar ke mahatva aur asantulit ghamand ka parinam batati hai. Madhu aur Kaitabh jaise shaktishaali bhi apne ghamand ke karan apne patan ka saamna kiye, ant mein hamein vinamrata aur unchayi ke liye adarsh sikhne ko milti hai.
