Who was Tatka? When was Tatka born? Who were Tatka's parents?
Once, a beautiful Yakshini named Tataka received a curse that turned her into a demon. There was a yaksha named Suketu who had no children. The people in Suketu's kingdom were unhappy because he did not pay attention to their welfare. When Suketu had no children of his own, he began intense meditation to seek Brahma's blessings for progeny.
Pleased with Suketu's penance, Brahma appeared before him. However, when Suketu asked for a son, Brahma, foreseeing the future troubles Suketu's lineage would bring to his people, granted him the blessing of a daughter instead. Suketu hesitated, expressing concerns about a woman's ability to rule a kingdom. In response, Brahma bestowed upon Suketu's daughter a unique boon of having the strength of ten thousand elephants.
Suketu was content with this extraordinary gift, and when his daughter was born, she was named Tataka. From her childhood, Tataka possessed the strength of ten thousand elephants. She was exceptionally beautiful, and her transformation into a demon came later as a curse. As Tataka grew older, she married Jambha's son, Sund. After some time, Sund and Tataka had a son named Maricha.
Maricha, a powerful demon with the ability to change forms, eventually turned to malevolent activities. When Maricha, in his demonic form, disrupted the yajnas and sacrifices of sages and Brahmins, Sage Agastya cursed him to become a demon. Enraged by the curse, Sund, Maricha's father, confronted Sage Agastya in battle but was defeated and killed.
Devastated by her husband's death, the enraged Tataka went to attack Sage Agastya, but she too received a curse from him, turning her into a demon. From that day forward, Tataka harbored a desire to kill all sages and ascetics. She lived in the forest with her son Maricha.
Earlier, the forest was lush and beautiful because it had received a boon from the king of gods, Indra. However, Indra, burdened by the sin of killing the demon Vritrasura, had to leave his heavenly abode and took refuge in the same forest where Tataka and Maricha lived.
To cleanse Indra of his sin, a sacred river bath was arranged. As the purifying waters flowed through the forest, terrifying creatures emerged. Among them was Tataka, residing there with her son Maricha. One day, when Sage Vishwamitra arrived with Rama and Lakshmana, Tataka confronted them, leading to her eventual demise.

Jab Suketu ki koi aulad nahi hui to vo santan paane ke liye Brahma Ji ki ghor sadhana karne laga.
Yaksh Suketu ke tap se prasann hokar Brahma Ji ne use darshan diye magar Suketu ke putra maangne par Brahma Ji ne use putra nahi balki ek putri ka ashirwad diya kyunki Brahma Ji ko pata tha ki putra paane ke baad Suketu ka vansh aage apni praja ko aur bhi kast deta rahega.
Lekin jab Brahma Ji ne Suketu ko putri ka vardaan dena chaaha to Suketu yah kehkar use asvikar karne laga ki stri jaat to nirbal hoti hai vo rajya chalane mein kaise mera saath degi? Tab Brahma Ji ne yaksh Suketu ko ek aisi vilakshan kanya ka vardaan diya jiske paas 10 hazaar haathiyo ka bal hone vaala tha. Is tarah ki vilakshan putri ka vardaan paakar Suketu khush ho gaya aur phir Suketu ke yahan jis putri ne janm liya uska naam Tataka rakha gaya.
Tataka mein bachpan se hi 10 hazaar haathiyo ka bal tha. Tataka dekhne mein bahut sundar thi. Use rakshasi ban jaane ka shap to baad mein mila tha. Jab Tataka badi hui to uska vivah Jambh putra Sund ke saath ho gaya. Kuch samay ke baad Sund aur Tataka ka ek putra hua jiska naam Marich tha.
Marich ek maha paraakarmi asur aur maayaavi tha jisme roop badle ki adbhut kala thi. Marich jab bada hua to vo ab apne asur mitron ke saath yahan vahan ghoomkar rishi muniyon aur brahmanon ke havan yagyon ko ujaadne laga.
Vo apne putra Marich ke saath ek van mein rahne aa gayi. Pehle vo van bahut hi sundar aur hara bhara tha. Kyunki us van ko devraaj Indra ka vardaan praapt tha. Bahut samay pehle devraaj Indra ne Vritrasur ka vadh kiya tha. Lekin us vadh ke baad us par brahmahatya ka dosh lag gaya.
Isi brahmahatya dosh ke karan devraaj Indra ko swarglok chhodna pada aur vo aakar usi van mein rahne lage jisme aaj Tataka apne putra Marich ke saath rah rahi thi. Indra ki brahmahatya dosh ko utaarne ke liye unhe har pavitra nadi ke jal se snan karvaya gaya tha. Indra ke brahmahatya ka paap jab jal se dhulakar us van mein bahta raha to vahan tarah tarah bhayanak jeev-jantu panapne lage. Unhi bhayanak jeev jantuon ke beech Tataka apne putra Marich ke saath rehti thi. Magar ek din Vishwamitra ke saath Ram Lakshman aaye aur phir Tataka ka vadh ho gaya."
