After reaching the divine realm of Lord Shiva, Chanchula’s life had changed completely. The woman who had once allowed worldly attachments and sensual desires to cast her life into darkness had now, by the grace of Lord Shiva, attained the divine realm. Her heart was filled with nothing but devotion, peace, and unwavering faith in Lord Shiva.
She began serving Goddess Parvati. Nothing in the material world held any attraction for her anymore. For Chanchula, remembering Lord Shiva had become the greatest joy of all. Yet one thought still remained in her heart. She was worried about her husband, Binduga.
She knew that Binduga had committed grave sins during his lifetime. He had abandoned the path of righteousness, lost himself in the company of prostitutes, and committed many other acts of wrongdoing.Chanchula herself had been liberated by the grace of Shiva, but she could not find complete peace without knowing what had become of her husband.
One day, she approached Goddess Parvati. Her heart was filled with compassion for Binduga. Memories of her former life returned to her, and she was tormented by the thought of the man with whom she had once shared her life. Where was he now? What state was he in?
She praised Goddess Parvati and bowed reverently at her feet.Pleased by Chanchula’s devotion and humility, Goddess Parvati looked upon her with compassion. Through the grace of Parvati, Chanchula came to know the truth about her husband’s fate.Binduga’s life had been steeped in sin.
He had turned away from dharma. He had abandoned his daily rituals, his sacred baths, his evening prayers, and all righteous duties. His mind had become consumed by anger, violence, sensual desire, and the company of wicked men.
He hated virtuous people. He tormented the poor and helpless. He committed acts of violence without hesitation. He had wasted his life in the company of prostitutes and had eventually abandoned his own wife. The company he kept had destroyed whatever good remained within him. After his death, he was subjected to terrible torments in the realm of Yama.He suffered the consequences of his deeds in numerous hells. But the burden of his sins was so immense that even after enduring those punishments, his suffering did not end.
To exhaust the remaining consequences of his actions, he was reborn as a fearsome spirit—a pishacha—on Mount Vindhya. There, his existence was one of endless misery. His body had become grotesque and terrifying.Tormented by hunger and pain, he wandered without rest. He had no shelter and no place to call his own. Neither day brought him peace nor night offered him relief.
He was bound by the consequences of his own deeds. When Chanchula learned of Binduga’s miserable condition, her heart filled with compassion. She had not forgotten the sins he had committed, but neither did she feel hatred towards him.
A single desire arose within her heart—to find a way to free Binduga from his terrible existence. She pleaded with Goddess Parvati for a means to redeem her husband. Then a path of salvation was revealed.
If Binduga could hear the sacred teachings of the Shiva Purana, his sins could be destroyed and his existence as a pishacha could come to an end.For Chanchula, this was a ray of hope.
Goddess Parvati appointed the great Gandharva king Tumburu, renowned for singing the glories of Lord Shiva, to undertake this sacred task.
Tumburu boarded a divine celestial aircraft with Chanchula, and together they journeyed towards Mount Vindhya. The region of Mount Vindhya was terrifying.Dense forests, desolate mountain slopes, and a darkness that seemed to stretch endlessly made the place even more forbidding.
It was there that Binduga wandered in the form of a pishacha. When Tumburu saw him, his appearance was horrifying. His enormous body struck fear into anyone who looked upon him.
At times he laughed. At times he wept. At other times he leapt about helplessly, as though driven mad by his own suffering.
Almost nothing of the ordinary human being he had once been remained within him.
Tumburu brought him under control and began making preparations for the recitation of the Shiva Purana.
Slowly, something extraordinary began to happen.
Sages, divine beings, and celestial devotees began arriving at the place to listen to the sacred narration.
The very mountain that had once echoed with the suffering of a tormented spirit was soon filled with the sacred atmosphere of Shiva’s divine story.
Tumburu began singing the glories of Lord Shiva.
Then the sacred narration of the Shiva Purana began.
The story spoke of the divine nature of Lord Shiva, his greatness, the devotion of his devotees, and the profound truth of Shiva-tattva.
The greatness and spiritual significance of all seven Samhitas of the Shiva Purana were narrated.
Everyone gathered there sat in deep concentration, listening to the sacred words.
Binduga, too, began to listen.
His monstrous body remained where it was, but deep within him, the humanity that had been buried for years slowly began to awaken.
With every sacred episode of the Shiva Purana, the darkness accumulated through his sins began to break apart.
Memories of his former life returned.
He remembered his actions.
He saw the suffering and injustice he had caused.
All the mistakes of his life seemed to stand before him.
But this time, there was no arrogance within him.
There was only remorse.
The power of the sacred narration continued to grow.
And as the narration reached its conclusion, the darkness that had surrounded Binduga’s existence began to disappear.
His life as a pishacha came to an end.
The monstrous body that had imprisoned him slowly vanished.
In its place appeared a radiant divine form.
His complexion became fair and luminous.
He was dressed in white garments.
Divine ornaments shone upon his body.
His entire being radiated a celestial brilliance.
He was no longer the terrifying pishacha who had wandered through the forests of Vindhya.
He had become a divine being.
And within his heart, devotion to Lord Shiva had awakened.
Chanchula gazed upon her husband in his divine form.
The very Binduga whom she had once lost to the temptations of the material world had now been transformed by the grace of Shiva.
The greatest sorrow of her life had finally come to an end.
Binduga began singing the glories of Lord Shiva together with his wife.
His mind no longer turned towards anything of the material world.
For him, devotion to Lord Shiva had become everything.
Together with Tumburu and Chanchula, he boarded the divine celestial aircraft.
The celestial vehicle began its journey towards the abode of Lord Shiva.
Sages and gods witnessed this extraordinary transformation.
The very Binduga who had once been buried beneath the weight of sin and degradation was now travelling towards the divine abode of Lord Shiva in a radiant celestial form.
When they reached Shiva’s sacred realm, Lord Maheshwara and Goddess Parvati welcomed him.
Lord Shiva bestowed his grace upon Binduga.
All the sins of his former life had been washed away.
He was granted a place among the divine attendants of Lord Shiva.
Goddess Parvati also welcomed Chanchula into her presence, and Chanchula became one of her companions.
Thus, the lives of the husband and wife were transformed completely.
Once, both of them had been led towards ruin by worldly attachment and sin.
But the sacred narration of the Shiva Purana changed the course of their lives.
Through devotion and detachment, Chanchula attained the divine realm of Shiva.
Through listening to the Shiva Purana, Binduga was liberated from his existence as a pishacha.
In the end, both husband and wife found a place in the sacred abode of Lord Shiva.
There, they experienced a bliss unlike any happiness the material world could ever offer.
Their lives became a profound reminder that no matter how heavy the burden of a person’s past actions may be, sincere repentance, devotion to Shiva, and the sacred hearing of the Shiva Purana can open the path towards transformation.
The story of Binduga was not merely the story of a sinner’s redemption.
It was a story of hope—the reminder that no matter how deep the darkness, the light of Shiva’s grace is far more powerful. And wherever the sacred story of Shiva reaches, it carries more than a tale—
