The story of Vritrasur's demise is significant in Hindu mythological texts, and these stories hold great importance in today's times. Each narrative imparts a lesson or moral. Despite residing in different realms, the offspring of the same father, Kashyap, Asuras, and Devas, were bound by rules. Whenever arrogance arose within them, they were reminded through curses or severe punishments that someone greater than them was observing and no obstacle could hinder the welfare of the world.
However, despite the constraints of bondage and punishment, arrogance occasionally raised its head. After gaining power and strength, a story of arrogance born in the mind is narrated here.
When the king of the gods, Indra, received a dreadful curse...
Long ago, among the deities, Tvashtha was a revered Prajapati known for his great penance and proficiency in the work of the gods. Due to his animosity towards Indra, he created a unique son endowed with three heads named 'Trishira.' Trishira was engaged in Vedic studies with one head, indulging in the consumption of honey with another, and observing all directions with the third. He renounced the pleasures of the senses, became disciplined, and devoted himself to austere penance.
Observing Trishira's penance, Indra became fearful and sent celestial nymphs to distract him. When unsuccessful, Indra personally went and killed him to break his penance.
Upon hearing the news of his son's demise, Tvashtha became extremely enraged. He performed a powerful ritual using Vedic mantras, creating a radiant being. Tvashtha named his second son 'Vritrasur' and inspired him to avenge Indra's killing. Vritrasur attacked Indra, defeating him and even taking the celestial elephant Airavata from him. Though Tvashtha was pleased, he undertook severe penance to accumulate strength for Indra's destruction.
Vritrasur, pleased to Brhma with his penance, granted the boon of invincibility. He then invaded the heavenly realm, established his supremacy, and left Indra and the entire assembly of gods distressed. They sought refuge with Lord Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu, praying for their protection.
Lord Vishnu, understanding the strength of Vritrasur, advised the gods to form an alliance with him based on trust. Later, they planned to deceitfully kill him. After performing rituals and appeasing Goddess Bhagavati, the gods achieved her favor.
Indra, pretending to make peace with Vritrasur, gained his trust and cunningly killed him. When Tvashtha learned about the treacherous killing of his son Vritrasur, he cursed Indra with severe suffering. Indra, afflicted by the curse of Brahmanicide, fell from grace, and all the gods, witnessing the turmoil, crowned Nahusha as the new Indra.
This event caused disturbances in the world, leading to drought and the earth losing its glory. Seeing the chaos caused by the absence of rain, sages, and gods made Nahusha the new Indra.
"Vritrasur vadh vadak aur devraj Indra ko shaap.

Hindu puranik granthon mein jitni bhi kahaniyan likhti hain vo kahaniyan aaj ke samay mein mein bahut mayne rakti hai. Har kahani mein kahi na kahi seekh aur shiksha milti hai. Ek hi pita Kashyap ki santanein asur aur devata, ye bhale hi alag alag kshetron mein nivaas karte the, magar dono hi niyamon se bandhe the. Yadi unme ahankar aata to kabhi unhein shaap to kabhi kathor dand dekar is baat ka ehsaas karaya jata ki koi unke upar bhi baitha hai jo sab dekh samajh rahe hain aur jagat ke kalyan mein koi bhi baadha nahi ban sakta. Lekin bandhan aur dand ke bawajood bhi samay samay par ahankar ne apna sir uthaya hai. Shakti aur saamarthya aa jaane ke baad mein mann mein paida hui aise hi ahankar ki ek kahani yahan likh raha hoon.
Bahut pehle devtaon mein shreshth Tvasta namke ek prajapati the, jo mahan tapasvi aur devtaon ka kaam karne mein atikushal mane jaate the. Unhone Indra se dvesh ke kaaran teen mastakon se sampann ek aise vichitra putra ko utpann kiya, jise 'Trishira' kaha gaya. Trishira ke teen sir the.
Trishira apne ek mukh se Vedadhyayan grahan karta tha, doosre mukh se madhupan karta tha aur teesre mukh se sab dishaon ka niriikshan karta tha. Vah trishi bhog ka tyag karke sanyami aur dharmaparayan tapasvi hokar atyant kathor tap karne laga. Uske tap ko dekhkar Indra bhaybheet ho gaya aur usne Trishira ke tap ko bhang karne ke liye uske paas apsaraon ko bheja. Parantu usme safalta na milne par Devraj Indra ne swyam jakar uska vad kiya.
Apne putr ke vad ka samaachaar sunkar Tvasta atyant krodhit ho gaye aur unhone Atharvavedokt mantron se Agni mem havan kar ek tejomay prakashmaan purush ko prakat kiya. Tvasta ne apne us doosre putra ka naam 'Vritrasur' rakha aur ise Indra ke vad ke liye prerit kiya. Vritrasur ne Indra par akraman kar use parajit kar usse Gajraj Haathi Airavat ko cheen liya.
Yadyapi Tvasta isse prasann ho gaye, parantu unhone Indra ko maarne ke liye apni shakti ka sancharan karne ki drishti se Brahmaji ke prasann karne ke liye Vrittasur ko tapasya karne ki prerana di.
iske baad Indra sahit sabhi devgan chintagrast ho gaye aur ve Brahma aur Shivji ke saath Bhagwan Vishnu ke paas gaye aur unse apni raksha ki prarthana karne lage. Bhagwan Vishnu ne Vritrasur ke bal ko samajh kar devtaon ko kisi prakar usse mitrata-sandhi karne aur vishvas mein lekar baad mein use maarne ki yojana batayi. Iske saath hi Mahamaya Bhagwati ko prasann karne ke liye bhi kaha. Iske baad devtaon ne puja-aradhana kar Bhagwati ko prasann kiya aur vardaan praapt kiya. Iske baad Indra ne Vritrasur se sandhikar use vishvas mein lekar dhokhe se uska vad kar diya.
Lekin Tvasta ko jab apne putra Vritrasur ke chhalpoorvak vad ki jaankari hui to unhone Indra ko darun kasht praapt hone ka shap de diya. Anavrishtike kaaran Prithvi bhi vaibhavshoony ho gayi. Devtaon aur muniyon ne is prakar ki araajakta dekhkar Rajarshi Nahush ko Indra bana diya gaya.
