The Curse of Goddess Ahilya and Redemption by Lord Rama
There are numerous stories in Indian mythology, but among them, some are particularly special Indian mythology stories. Here, we will explore an untold tale related to Gautam's wife. In Indian mythology stories, there is a terrifying curse that befell Devi Ahilya. An ancient story from mythology, intertwined with curses and blessings, is presented here.
In the Treta Yuga, there was a wonderful woman named Devi Ahilya, who became the wife of Sage Gautama. Ahilya, as beautiful as she was, surpassed others in her devotion to her husband and adherence to virtuous conduct. Due to this, she is also known as Ahilaya among virtuous women. However, due to a mistake, her husband Sage Gautama cursed her, turning her into a stone.
How Ahilya was cursed.? Story of Ahilya
According to Valmiki Ramayana, Sage Gautama, and Ahilya lived as husband and wife in a hermitage in the forest. Sage Gautama had immense love for his consort Ahilya, who, in turn, always followed her duties as a devoted wife. However, one day, the king of gods, Lord Indra, became enamored by the beauty of Ahilya and tried to seduce her. When Lord Indra realized that Sage Gautama went to worship the Ganga every morning and returned late, he sought the help of his friend, the moon god.
That night, before dawn, Chandra Dev (the moon god) disappeared from the sky briefly, creating an illusion that morning had come. Sage Gautama, deceived by this illusion, left the hermitage to perform his worship, bidding farewell to Ahilya. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Lord Indra assumed the appearance of Sage Gautama and approached Ahilya, expressing his desires. Unaware of the deception, Ahilya began fulfilling the desires of the disguised Lord Indra.
Just then, Chandra Dev reappeared in the sky, and Sage Gautama, having discovered the deception, returned to the hermitage. Realizing the deceit, Sage Gautama cursed Ahilya to turn into a stone and Lord Indra to be bereft of his powers forever. However, after a while, when Sage Gautama understood that his wife was innocent, and Lord Indra had deceived them, he informed Ahilya that she would regain her form when Lord Rama, during his exile, touched her with his feet.
Eventually, during Lord Rama's exile, when his feet touched the stone that was once Ahilya, she was freed from the curse and transformed back into the goddess she once was.

Treta Yuga mein ek bahut hi sundar stri hui, jiska naam Devi Ahilya tha, jo Gautam Rishi ki patni bani. Ahilya jitni sundar thi, usase kahin adhik vah pativrata dharm ka palan karne wali thi. Isi karan se satiyon mein ek naam Ahilya ka bhi aata hai. Magar uski ek bhool ke karan uske pati Gautam Rishi ne use shraap diya, aur voh sheela ban gayi.
Valmiki Ramayana ke anusar, Gautam Rishi aur Ahilya dono pati-patni van ki kutiya mein ekantvas mein rahe. Gautam Rishi apni sangini Ahilya se bahut prem karte the, jise palan karne wali patni ke roop mein dekhte the. Ek din achanak devraj Indra ki nazar sundar Ahilya par padi, aur vah use prapt karne ke liye lalayit ho uthe. Devraj ko pata chala ki Gautam Rishi roz pratahkal hi Ganga puja ke liye jaate hain aur der tak puja karke lautte hain, isliye usne apne mitra Chandra Dev se sahayta maangi.
Iske baad us raat Chandra Dev bhore hone se pehle hi kuch der ke liye aakash se lupt ho gaye, jisse Gautam Rishi ko pratahkal ho jaane ka bhram hua , aur vah apni patni Ahilya se vida lekar puja karne kutiya se bahar gaye. Is avsar ka labh uthakar devraj Indra ne apna vesha Gautam Rishi ke roop mein badal liya, aur Devi Ahilya ke paas aakar usne prem-kamna ki ichha zahir karne lage. Devraj Indra ke chhal se anjaan Devi Ahilya ne apne chhalava pati ke mann ki ichha poori karne shuru kar di. Tabhi usi samay Chandra Dev aage ka haal jaankar darr gaye, aur phir se aakash mein dikhai dene lage. Chandra ko aakash mein phir se dekh Gautam Rishi ko unke saath hue chhal ka pata chal gaya, aur ve turant kutiya mein aa gaye.
Devi Ahilya ko vesha badle devraj ke saath dekh Gautam Rishi ne Devi Ahilya ko turant hi patthar ban jaane ka shraap diya, aur devraj Indra ko hamesha ke liye shaktiyon se vanchit kar diya. Lekin kuch der baad jab Gautam Rishi ko yeh samajh aaya ki unki patni nirdosh hai, aur devraj Indra ne unhein dhoka diya hai, to unhone Ahilya ko bataya ki jab Shri Ram van-gaman karte huye yahan aayenge aur unke charan unki sheela par padenge, tab use shraap se mukti mil jayegi. Fir kalaantar mein aisa hi hua. Sheela ban chuki Devi Ahilya par jab Shri Ram ke charan pade, to vah phir se patthar se mukti pa gayi.
