In India, the worship of the cow holds immense significance and prominence. Across many states, cities, and villages in India, you can see cow devotees and caretakers. According to ancient belief, anyone who serves the cow attains moksha (liberation). Since the cow nourishes us with her milk, she has been granted the status of a second mother. The glory of the cow is described in many of our ancient scriptures and Puranas.
In the lineage of Lord Rama, it is said that his ancestor, King Dilip, was once tested by a Kamdhenu cow before he was blessed with a child. Numerous religious stories connected to the cow can be found in Indian Puranas. Yet, despite being so special and important, even today people have not fully understood her, nor have they been able to gather complete knowledge about her from anywhere.
So, what exactly is the significance of the cow according to our ancient scriptures? And how does a cow devotee attain moksha? This was a story that needed to be brought to the audience, a vision that was felt by Late Mr. Ramanand Sagar’s son, Prem Sagar, and grandson, ShivSagar. Under their production banner, Sagar World Multimedia Pvt Ltd, work began on the TV show Kamdhenu Gau Mata. They developed the storyline and entrusted the responsibility of writing the screenplay for Kamdhenu’s story to Shrikant Vishwakarma, who has earlier been the writer of shows like Parshuram, Tirupati Balaji, Kaal Bhairav, Mata Saraswati, and Kahat Hanuman Jai Shri Ram.
For information, the mythological TV show Kamdhenu Gau Mata began broadcasting on Star Bharat TV channel yesterday, on 11th August 2025. The show is based on Goddess Gau, who emerged from Lord Krishna’s body into Gau Lok so that she could descend to the earthly realm and contribute to the hom and havan rituals of sages, providing milk, curd, and ghee as offerings for the deities. Additionally, she came to Earth to ensure that people could have sufficient ghee and milk, thereby helping to build a strong and prosperous society.
Lord Shiva entrusted her to Sage Vashistha, and later she came into the possession of Parshuram’s father, Sage Jamadagni. This was a miraculous and divine cow whose fame reached King Sahasrabahu Arjun. The king, desiring the cow, killed everyone in Sage Jamadagni’s ashram to take her away. This incident led Parshuram to vow that he would rid the earth of Kshatriyas 21 times.
Apart from this, Gau Mata Kamdhenu will showcase many other fascinating stories. The show airs at 9 PM on Star Bharat, with screenplay written by mythology author Shrikant Vishwakarma. So do watch this show and gain complete knowledge about Gau Mata Kamdhenu.
