How was Lord Narayan or Vishnu born? Why was He named Narayan?
Brhma tells Devarshi Narad O Devarshi! Once, while delighting in the blissful forest (Anandavana), Lord Shiva and Goddess Shiva (Shakti had a desire arise in their minds to create another being. They thought: “Let us create another person, upon whom we may place the great responsibility of managing creation. Then, the two of us can reside only in Kashi and roam as we please.”
With this resolution, the all-pervading Supreme Lord Shiva, along with his consort Shakti, anointed the tenth part of the left side of his body with divine nectar. From that very spot, a male figure emerged—one who was the most beautiful and peaceful being in all three worlds. His complexion was dark like a blue sapphire (Indraneel Mani), and he wore two silk garments—pitambaras—that shone like gold, enhancing the splendor of his divine limbs.
Shiva then named him Vishnu and granted him the knowledge of the Vedas through his breath.
Thereafter, Lord Vishnu engaged in intense penance for a long period. From the heat and labor of his penance, streams of water of various kinds flowed from his body. Because he lay in the waters (nāra) that emerged, he came to be known as Nārāyaṇ—“He who rests in the waters.”
In Hindi Roman : Bhgwan Naryan ka janm kaise hua? vishnu ka naam Naryan kaise pada?
Brahma tells Devarshi Narad:
"O Devarshi! Ek baar, jab Bhagwan Shiva aur Devi Shakti Anandavana mein anand le rahe the, tab unke man mein ek nayi srishti karne ki ichchha utpann hui. Unhone socha: ‘Chaliye ek naya purush rachte hain, jise hum srishti ka maha-daayitva de sakein. Toh hum dono keval Kashi mein niwas kar sakenge aur apni ichchha se vihar kar sakenge.’”
Unhone tay kiya ki unki kripa se yah naya purush sab jeevon ki srishti, raksha aur ant mein unka vinash bhi karega.
Is sankalp ke saath, sarvavyapak Param Shiv ne apni ardhangini Shakti ke saath milkar apne shareer ke baaye bhaag ke dasve ang ko divya amrit se abhishekit kiya. Usi sthaan se ek purush ka janm hua—jo tino lokon mein sabse sundar aur shaant swabhav ka tha. Uska varna neelam mani jaisa gahra neela tha, aur usne do resham ke vastra—pitambar—pehne the, jo sunehre jaise chamak rahe the, aur uske divya angon ki shobha ko aur badha rahe the.
Kyunki ve un jalon (nāra) mein shayan kar rahe the, isliye unka naam pada Nārāyaṇ — “jo jal mein shayan karta hai.”
