Asura Rahu - Ketu
Let's go back to ancient times when the gods did not possess the nectar, yet they had powers comparable to the demons. All demons, demons, monsters, and gods shared the same parents - Goddess Diti, Aditi, and Sage Kashyapa. Daksha's 13 daughters were married to Sage Kashyapa, and among them were two sisters, Diti and Aditi. While Aditi gave birth to the gods, Diti gave birth to the demons. The most prominent demons in the demon lineage were Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. They had two sisters, Singhika and Holika. Singhika got married to the demon king Viprasidha, and they had a son named Swarbhanu. Swarbhanu's body, from birth, had the head of a demon and the torso of a serpent, appearing dark and fearsome. This is the same Swarbhanu who later became known as Rahu.
However, as soon as Rahu was born, the guru of the demons, Shukracharya, predicted, after examining his horoscope, that the son of the famous Singhika would attain the status of a deity. Until then, no demon had achieved such a position. When the gods learned of this, they devised a plan to remove Swarbhanu from their path. But Rahu's mother, Singhika, was a dangerous demoness who could capture anyone's shadow and devour them. Singhika continued to protect her son from enemies, and with each generation, demons and monsters were born in the demon and demoniac lineages, making them stronger.
When the gods approached Lord Narayana with their dilemma, he suggested a solution for them to become prosperous and powerful - the churning of the ocean, known as Samudra Manthan. However, the gods couldn't perform this task alone and reluctantly joined forces with the demons. As the churning progressed, whatever was obtained from it was distributed between the demons and gods. The gods never thought that nectar would also emerge from the churning, turning them immortal. Upon touching the nectar, the minds of the gods changed, and they hesitated to give the nectar to the demons.
Rahu, however, quickly understood the deception of the gods and stealthily grabbed the pot of nectar, running away. When the gods sought help from Narayana again, Vishnu took the form of Mohini and came to distribute the nectar. For the distribution of the nectar, demons and gods were arranged in separate rows. When the distribution began, Rahu once again showed cunning and quietly sat between the sun and the moon. Rahu had consumed half of the nectar when the sun and moon recognized him. As a result, Mohini, now Vishnu, immediately turned into his divine form and severed Rahu's head with his Sudarshan Chakra. Rahu's torso became Ketu.
To rectify the injustice done to Rahu, he was granted a place among the nine celestial bodies. However, Rahu, upon attaining celestial status, occasionally swallows the sun, causing a solar eclipse. This act of swallowing the sun is known as a solar eclipse or Surya Grahan. During a solar eclipse, all things in the world become contaminated, and no auspicious activities are performed. Rahu is a shadow planet that can bring both good and bad effects. If Rahu is in an exalted position, it can make anyone wealthy, but when in a debilitated position, it can reduce a person to not only poverty but also disgrace.

Story :
Yugon pahle ki baat hai, jab devtaon ko amrit nahi mila tha to unke paas bhi utni hi shaktiyan thi jitni ki asuron ke paas. Sabhi asuron, danavon, rakshason aur devtaon ke mata-pita ek hi the - devi Diti aur rishi Kashyap. Daksh ki 13 putriyon ka vivah rishi Kashyap ke saath hua tha, unhi mein do behne Diti aur Aditi bhi thi. Aditi ne devtaon ko janm diya jabki Diti ne asuron ko janm diya. Asuron ke vansh mein sabse bade asur Hiranyaksha aur Hiranyakashyapu hue. Singhika aur Holika unki do behne thi. Singhika ka vivah asur nayak Viprasidha se hua, fir unse ek putra janma jise Swar Bhanu naam diya gaya. Swar Bhanu ka sharir janm se hi ek asur ka sir aur ek nag ka dhad tha jo dekhne mein bahut kala aur daravna dikhata tha. Yahi Swar Bhanu aage chal kar Rahu kahlata hai.
Lekin Rahu ka janm lete hi asuron ke guru Shukracharya ne uski kundli dekhkar ye ghoshna kar di ki Viprasidha ke prasiddh aur Singhika ke putra ko dev-padh ki prapti hogi. Ab tak asuron mein aisa koi bhi nahi tha jise dev padh ki prapti hui thi. Jab ye baat devtaon ko pata chali to devtaon ne Swar Bhanu ko raste se hatane ki yojna banayi. Lekin Rahu ki maa Singhika ek bahut hi khatarnak rakshasi thi jo kisi ki bhi parchhai pakadkar uska shikar kar leti thi. Singhika apne putra ki raksha karti rahi. Asur aur danav vanshon mein ek se badhkar rakshas aur daitya paida ho rahe the jisse asur aur danav mazboot hone lage.
Jab devtaon ne apni samasya ko bhagwan Narayan ke samne bataya to Bhagwan Narayan ne devtaon ko samriddh aur shaktishali hone ka ek upay bataya aur vo tha - Samudra Manthan. Lekin devta akela milkar samudra manthan nahi kar sakte the isliye unhone majboor hokar asuron ko bhi apne saath mila liya. Samudra manthan se jo bhi chiz milti gayi use asur aur devta aapas mein baantte gaye. Lekin devtaon ne kabhi nahi socha tha ki samudra manthan se amrit bhi nikalega. Wo amrit jo unhe amar bana dega. Amrit haath lagte hi devtaon ka man badal gaya. Wo asuron ko amrit dene ka ichha nahi karte the magar Rahu ne devtaon ke chhal ko samajhkar der nahi lagayi aur vo amrit kalash lekar bhaag gaya. Devtaon ne jab phir se Narayan se madad maangi to Vishnu ne Mohini ka roop liya aur Mohini amrit ka bantwara karne aayi. Amrit ka bantwara karne ke liye asur aur devtaon ko alag-alag pankti mein bithaya gaya. Jab amrit devtaon mein bantna shuru hua to Rahu ne phir se chalaki dikhayi aur jakar chupchap surya aur chandra ke beech baith gaya. Rahu ne aadha amrit pee hi tha ki surya aur chandra ne use pehchaan liya jiske parinam swaroop Mohini ne turant Vishnu ban kar apne Sudarshan Chakra se Rahu ka gala kaat diya. Rahu ka dhad Ketu kahlata hai.
Is rupyaaprit Rahu ke saath huye is anaya ko durust karne ke liye Rahu-Ketu ko nau grahon mein dev padh ka sthan diya gaya. Lekin Rahu, dev padh paate hi samay-samay par surya ko nigalkar apna badlana lena shuru kar diya. Rahu ka surya ko nigalna hi surya grahan kehlata hai. Surya grahan lagte hi samay-sansar ki saari cheezein doshit ho jaati hain. Is samay koi bhi shubh kaam nahi hota. Rahu ek aisa chhaya grah hai jo bura bhi kar sakta hai aur bhala bhi. Rahu agar uchh grah par ho to vo kisi ko bhi dhanwan bana deta hai aur agar yahi Rahu neech grah par sthit ho jaye to vo vyakti ko na sirf garib balki chandal bhi bana deta hai.
